Reiki

Reiki (pronounced ‘rākē/) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes emotional and physical healing to those who are open and receptive.  It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to have life.  If one’s “life force energy” is low, then one is more likely to become sick or feel stressed.  If it is high, one is more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy.”  While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion.  It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki.  Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.

My Story

I have been blessed by our Heavenly Father to be a vessel for healing.  Simply put God’s love flows through me to help my client.

I first experienced this after my Mom had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis that turned into cancer. She was in a lot of pain due to radiation treatments.  We were sitting on the sofa and I put my arm around her.  As soon as I did, waves of love came through me starting from the top of my head and pulsated down my arm and out my hand.  It was an amazing sensation, but I didn’t tell my Mom what I was feeling.  When I removed my arm, she turned to me and said, “Vickie, my pain is gone!”  This was the confirmation I needed!  I told her what I was feeling.  We were both shocked.  I was also very humbled at the thought that God could work through me like this to help others.

My husband had a headache one night while lying in bed.  Intuitively, I placed my hand on his forehead for a few seconds.  After I removed my hand, he sat up in bed and said, “What did you do?  My headache is gone!”  I told him “I” didn’t do anything.  It was God’s love flowing through me that helped him.

At this time we were still both in college, so I pushed aside this wonderful gift God had given me until one day, several years later, a friend of mine called me.  She had breast cancer and was in a lot of pain after a double mastectomy.   All of a sudden my hands got really warm, and all of the memories flooded back into my mind about helping my Mom and my husband years ago.  I told her about these memories coming back into my awareness.  God was trying to tell me that He wanted to use me to help relieve some of her pain.  I asked if she was open to me coming and praying with her and putting my hands on her.  She was excited and said yes!  While driving to her house, I prayed and asked God to help me with this gift because I didn’t know what to do.  When I arrived, she was smiling and eager to have God help her.  I sat on the sofa with her and held both of her hands and prayed out loud, and then became silent.  Again, I felt the loving energy start from the top of my head and pulsate down my arms and out my hands to her hands.  She said, your hands are getting really warm, Vickie!  After several minutes, I could sense we were finished.  Her pain was 95% gone and she said that a wonderful feeling of peace and relaxation came over her.

So, after this wonderful experience, I prayed and asked God to help me with this gift.  I wanted to learn more about how hands-on-healing worked, so I started researching on the internet and came across Reiki.  I found Ashley and called her.  We hit it off right away.  She believed in Jesus and spoke of our Heavenly Father.  I felt comfortable and knew she could help teach me about chakras and how energy works in the body.  Before taking classes with her, I told her I didn’t really “need Reiki” classes that God had already gifted me with something special, but I needed to call what I do by a name.  Reiki seemed to be the logical choice.

Living in the buckle of the Bible belt I’ve run into people who are uncertain of what Reiki means and where it comes from.  For Christians who need more explanation, please visit: christianreiki.org.   I simply pray out loud before doing a session on someone and ask that God work through me to help my client.

I am humbled and honored to be of service to those who are open to receiving.  It is our faith that heals.  God works through many avenues to help us if we are open and receptive to His love.
